We have been extremely lucky with our service so far. We had some nasty weather for a few days and then our satellite went out. When it came back up, all the timers we had set were gone. It is still holding memory in that it has everything we had recorded on the DVR. We are still having some trouble getting channels to come in before it starts searching for a signal.

And when we hit the record button, the red light shows on the box but it isn't recording. Any ideas?

Not going into the extremes, you could check your signal first. Go to your setup, installation, and then check out the signal. (I believe once you go into the setup menu, it's 6, 1, 1 - the number buttons you would press on the Dish remote).

If the signal bar is red, then the weather has knocked your satellite dish off skew.

You can either fix it by calling a satellite dish installer (almost any)... or you could do it yourself. If you've never done it before, it might take you a whole day to fix it...versus an hour of an experienced persons time.

Here's a small test you can do. While the signal screen is on, a sound while come on. When it's closer to the right position, the sound will become more loud. You can put light pressure on the dish (up,left, right, down) and see if it effects the sound. If it does, just a small nudge may fix your problem (temporarily). You'll need to loosen some screws/bolts, move the dish, and rescure the screws to make the dish position more precise and secure.

I'm not sure how bad your weather is, but you might want to reassess the location of it. (ie. is there a better place that it can point to without having much weathering effects?)

If your weather is really bad, it's better to have it mounted on a stable mass (a metal pole) that is secured to the ground with concrete and have it as low to the ground as possible without any obstructions.

...now if your signal is good and you're still having issues, I suggest you call up Dish Network for extended support.

try holding the power button in until it turns off and then let off, then it will turn on and reset it self. If that does not work then you need to do a check swith and you go into your menu to that. If that dont work you need to call dish network and tell them your dvr went bad and have the RA that receiver and get you another one, if its not recording then that receiver done went bad. With the problem about you not getting channels you need someone to come and set your dish right if that didnt work for your receiver. I used to work at a dish call center and thats what we had the customer do

Recording problems can be cause by low signal. And from what you are telling us that sounds like your issue. Best thing would be just to call dish at 800-333-DISH. This way you talk to some one who can get more information about your problem. There is no charge for their tech support on the phone so no worries there.

I've had similar problems. And I usually get relief by unplugging the unit for a few minutes and plugging it back in.

some dish community containers have the ability to do audio output to the ordinary cables rather of by ability of hdmi. pass into the thoughts/settings and discover the audio thoughts to ensure it rather is sending it by ability of hdmi rather of ordinary cables.
