I had one 5 years ago and there is nothing to be scared of. If you are afraid of being put to sleep you can ask for a local that they will just numb you from the waist down. Like an epidural. The hole thing take about an half an hour and the only pain is cramping like you have your period and sourness were they make the incision. Nothing to worry about. Good Luck

I wouldn't worry at all. I had mine done about 2 years ago and it was no big deal. I was not put to sleep because I was afraid of that too. The Dr. who did mine gave me the choice of being put to sleep or just getting a spinal (a shot of medicine into your back) which just numbs you from the waist down. So, I would ask your dr. if that is an option. I chose the spinal and it felt a little weird but it wears off in about 1-2 hours. The procedure itself, takes about 20 minutes tops, it is a very quick procedure. As far as it hurting, I only had moderate pain the next day and that was it. It wasn't excruciating pain at all, it just felt like I was stiff and sore across my belly and I couldn't bend over. But, like I said, it only lasted one day and then I was fine. It really was a breeze, I don't know if that is the way it is for most people or if I just got lucky, but that was my experience. Hope this helps! Good luck to you!

In all honesty It is very painfull afterwards. As I was breastfeeding and couldn't have anything stronger than motrin for pain. But I will tell you every day thereafter your pain will be cut in half. As bad as you feel the first day, you will feel twice as good the next. The surgery it's self takes an average of 45 minutes. The MOST painfull part is coughing after the surgery. Which we encourage our patients to do. I know from first hand experience that this is horrible. I would suggest that if you are NOT breastfeeding " TAKE THE PAIN MEDICATION". I am not trying to scare you, but I am being as honest as I can. It is very painfull, as I suppose any surgery is. I was not sedated during my surgery, so I can't tell you what it's like to be. Good luck in a few days, you will be feeling normal again.

It was painful....
The coughing felt like it was going to tear me in two the first couple days, but after I coughed up the flegm it felt much better. I suggest doubling over a pillow to help with that.
Also, from the gas used to inflate your abdomen, it dissapates through the body and makes one of your shoulders hurt right by your collarbone. the Dr.s didn't tell me this, and it was very upsetting. That pain lasted four days, and I think it was the worst. It comes and goes too.
I was good as new about 4 weeks from surgery

Well I have had one and I know how scary it is. I dont know how long it takes cause I went right to sleep when they gave me the medicine. But I can tell you it will hurt, but not for a long time mine only hurt for 3 days, just take it easy and get lots of rest when u can. But all and all its not that bad if you can have a baby this will be a snap.

I had mine done 2 years ago. It took about 15-20 mins. It was painful for a day or two after, but I had mine done just after birth, so the pain could have been doubled by that. I haven't had any trouble since then.
Now, my sister went in for hers about 8 weeks after birth, and she didn't have hardly any pain or trouble.
