it makes me wonder why people feel it is the best thing to do, take a child from poverty away from a culture and country is knows, family friends and a way of life it has known into a completly new enviroment that is not exactly the adverage home.
What about the emotional side does being able to buy the latest and most expensive item make everything happy or it is a temporary joy that will soon loose it appeal.
Would it not be better to put your wealth to helping the whole village or community ensuring sanitation is a top of the list, medical treatment, education, learning to help farm land.
These are just my views and I am not saying adopting is wrong but in some cases maybe thinking abit more about who you are adopting would help.

I think it's just the latest 'in' thing isn't it? The father of the child Madonna wants to adopt said himself he only intended to leave the child in care for a short time. Now a rich celebrity has come along he's 'changed his mind'. I wonder how he'll feel a few years down the line. I think it's hard enough for celebrities kids being brought up in the spotlight, but this poor little boy has been brought so far from his own life to live with an egocentric American and her 'English' children...How is he ever supposed to fit in? If Madonna truly had the child's interests at heart she could sponsor him and allow him to stay with his father.

I think your absolutly right, the money that these celebs spend on adopting a child from a foreign country would be better off being used to put in water wells buy farming tools and feed the entire village for a couple of years.

And now imagine a person who genuinely wants to adopt a child from Africa, everyone will think they do it because it's so in. I generally think adoption is a great thing, I don't know why those couples who fail to conceive don't turn to it instead of going through all that IVF and surrogacy and other stuff. it's like forcing the nature. And how come celebs are able to adopt so quickly? I read about a woman who adopted a girl from China and it took her a good year till she was allowed to take her home to England. But that woman, of course, wasn't a celeb.

i think of adoption often is astonishing. What greater constructive present than to grant that of yet another the skill to be certain. I do form of ask your self whether some celebrities dont' p.c. to destroy thier "suited" our bodies so because it is the clarification they chosen to undertake. Shhhh now i'm basically thinking out loud lol.

You are 100% right if they meant it like normal adoptive parents, they have the means to keep it out of the media entirely - at least till the child is well established as their's. Since that option is relatively inexpensive (for those in that position) then the only conclusion you can draw is that it's all for 'the exposure'.

Well, supposedly Madonna is going to spend 3 million on orphan children in Malawi. However, I'm a real sceptic about celebs who do things like this. Are they doing it for their public image? Are they doing it because they have the money to "buy" a child and can? What's going to be the long term affect on these children?

Of course, they probably HAVE put a lot of thought into whom they are adopting. We only know what the media chooses to tell us. And high-profile celebrity adoptions are FAR from a new fad. Just watch Mommie Dearest again. =)

I totally agree with you and only think that celebrities are trying to look "cool" and should intead be putting their energies towards helping these children in their own country or family environment. You can bet that the child will soon be palmed off to a nanny as soon as the novelty wears off.

Read a quote in the media yesterday which offended me but the more I think about it, the more it rings horribly true - 'Adoption is the new black'. I'm not black but it hardly does anything for race relations, and the likes of Jolie or Madonna have slipped even further in my estimation.
