We had a Lady of the Night plant given to us as a gift, but know little about it. It was growing quite nicely, then the leaves turned yellow and fell off. My husband repotted it, and new curly leaves have started to grow. As it is coming towards winter (we live in Andalucia, Spain), does it need cutting back?

I am not sure if you are talking about the Orchid that is called Lady of the night, if you are, it does not hurt them to cut dead growth, so you should be able to cut it back. If you need more information, here is a link to a forum on gardenweb.com that has all kinds of Orchid info- http://forums2.gardenweb.com/forums/orchids/

If you don't find what you need, just post your question. Sign up is free, and there are probably the most knowledgeable people about all types of plants on there. I have learned all kinds of good stuff there ! Check out there other forums too, lots of plant and garden info.

I've just looked this up on the web (typed in Lady of the Night, plant) and Cereus hexagonus cactus. Quick glance at the site I opened and it just shows a map of USA. Lots of options came up, so I suggest you have a look too.
Not sure that a cactus is quite what you are describing though.

You can reduce the height. It's not like the jointed cacti, you can separate it at the node and you could root the end. Or, depending on how tall it is, cut it into several sections, eight to twelve inches long, root them and give them away.
