What is the catch with Acer computers (laptop), why are they so cheap? I mean can they last at least for a year?

I have an Acer Travelmate 4150 for a little over a year. I have put it through a huge amount of abuse. Travel- using it for a GPS while traveling about 40,000 miles over some very rough roads- using it as a desktop when at home etc. I use it a lot every day. The only problem I have is just several days ago the left mouse button broke - still usable but will need repair. I am pleased with it so far. Hope that helps......

i used to have an acer computer and it did me a great job and lasted for years

Its jus coz of market competitions from other companies yes they last for years
