The US has a congressional system while the UK, Germany, Japan, and Australia have parliamentary systems. While the US votes in a pluralist manner, where whoever gets the most votes in a district wins, the parliamentary systems have proportional representation, in which a party gets the same percentage of seats in the parliament as they did of the vote. Therefore, the US has a two party system, which leads them both to be moderate, while the others have a mult-party system, with the possibility of extremist parties. In the parliamentary system, the PM (who is much like the president) is actually chose by the party that has the most seats in parliament. If no single party has a simple majority of seats (which rarely happens), a coalition between 2 or more parties is formed to gain a majority.
The British and Australian governments are almost identical, as Australia is a former British colony and the government was largely created by Britain. In fact, Australia still recognizes the symbolic rule of the Queen of England! How very interesting.
China is a completely different story. It is moving away from being a communist, purely dictatorial state. It may best be described now as an oligarchy, though that idea is contentious, where a small group has complete control of the government without being held reliable to the interests of the people. With the advent of the internet and the globalization of the marketplace, the Chinese government is slowly losing its firm hold on its people. China is best described as simply being in a transitional stage with many aspects of many various forms of government.
For good sources, I agree with looking at Wikipedia. Also, look at the CIA World Factbook. It's the closest thing to absolute reality that I know of.

Good question..and a big question. I'd do a yahoosearch for each country with keywords "form/type of government", if I had the time and inclination.

they could in all probability retaliate in type. E.g. they might grab the sources of human beings residing of their international locations, or cancel expenditures owed to u . s . a . of america. Japan, btw, is a good larger debtor usa than u . s . a . of america, so the debt to debt in all probability balances out.
