I mean does it really matter? There is one answer on the question page and it is the only one that makes since. I've done a little research and the only answer that is anywhere close to correct is the real long one. It is as correct an answer as you are going to get anywhere.

Yes it matters as far as Paganism and Christianity are concerned.
To the Pagans it is their New year With certain rites and rituals preformed as it is the time when the veil between the worlds is the thinness.good for remembering the memories of friends and family that have pasted and a silent supper is set with an empty place so that they can come and be fed.in some sects of the religion others have their own ways.
Leave out the Demon worship and such as that is Christian nonsense because they couldn't get most of them to convert. and called them Satan worshipers and such to try and keep people from joining them.
For Christians it became All Hallows eve the day before All saints day.

The 2 things that annoy me most when people explain the "origin" of Halloween, is the claim that it was the "Lord of Death Samhain"'s birthday or something ridiculous like that, and that witches and Satanists sacrifice black cats. Witches and Satanists do not sacrifice black cats; stupid teenagers and kids who need psychological help do that. Other than that, I can generally deal with misinformation surrounding Halloween.

Just another holiday based on pagan festivals. Christmas, Easter, and Halloween they are all based on pagan festivals.
Christan's have been deputed into believing they are Christan holidays, and commercialization.

It was started by the pagans. We're naive about it because of Christians and commercialism.
