Because i forgot to take my account off for xbox live and i dont want anyone using my account

No, they don't. They take it in and clean it then turn around and sell it. I hope nobody figures out the xbox live account!

Our Gamestop formats hard drives/memory cards before reselling them, and I think they're required to given the possibility of personal information being stored on them.

No they don't. If you are concerned about unauthorised access to your account go change the logon password.
