For some odd and unfathomable reason I had a complete emotional breakdown when I hit 25. Now I am 36 and do not mind the thought of turning 40 if I make it...go figure.

For me it was turning 40, everyone was so down in the mouth about that age and saying everything is downhill from now on, well don't know why I listened to them because things have only got better for me since I was 40 and this Christmas I am 50 and looking forward to it big time.

I turn 60 next month and it depresses me. Being raised in the California culture it isn't cool to be old, and 60 means old. Maybe if my health wasn't so bad I wouldn't be this depressed. I keep thinking - 'How did this happen?' In my head I'm a young person, probably because I'm a writer and artist, but time has gotten away from me. I remember my elderly mother looking in a mirror once and saying she had no idea who that wrinkled hunch-backed old woman was. I understand now.

Forty without a doubt! I would have lied my way through it if I could. Because of society's perceptions I suddenly saw myself as old. Not greatly helped by a co worker telling me as if it was a compliment " Oh, you walk like a young person!"
Now at 57 I feel like I have something to be be proud of. I have half a century plus of history behind me and the confidence to be me.
My kids have all grown up into really nice human beings and more importantly my mirror lies like mad to me!

30. It was really weird cause I dreaded turning 30 so badly. It felt like that was when my Dad was going to pass away & I never said anything to anyone only that I dreaded turning 30 & that's when my Dad passed away. The night he passed my Mom said " you kept saying you dreaded turning 30, you knew didnt you?". In a way I did somehow know he was going to be leaving us.
