You are not the only person with poor credit in North America so don't fall for all the BS about not being able to get credit or haveing to wait 6 yrs before being able to repair your credit. The reason why secured credit cards were created is because there are many people just like you that need a way to repair credit and get on with life. My husband and I changed banks because when we were first married he had a student loan that he'd never made a payment on (thus his BAD credit) While every other bank shook there heads we found that the Credit Union in our area was willing to work with us to better ourselves and our credit ratings. He told us that if we opened an account with him and banked there for 3 months he would then give us a loan to pay off our bad debt and build up good credit. After 5 months we were able to go in and get a mortgage because we'd proved to him that inspite of our previous credit ratings we could handle our new debt etc. Perhaps this could work for you too.

No you don't need credit - surely the fact that you've got a bad crediting rating shows you something? What's the fact that christmas is coming up got to do with it? If you needed to eat then I may be able to understand, but if you're thinking about the need to buy presents then NO YOU DON'T.
Be honest with people about your financial situation and just get some nice cards and put personal messages in them, anything but get yourself into debt. You should really be asking how can you improve your credit rating.
This is such a major problem now that there are hundreds of free agencies to give advice, do a search in any search engine.

Most of these answers are correct. If you are deep in debt, don't seek out more credit. You'll just be digging yourself into a deeper hole.
I have bad credit. I have since paid off ALL of my debt, but I don't have any positive credit. I went to Orchard bank and got a card. The interest rate is high, and the annual fee is a pain in the neck, but I only buy things when I have cash to cover them. I send the cash to Orchard bank.
This way I don't have to pay the high interest rate (I payoff the card monthly). My credit bureau shows monthly regular payments and my credit score is beginning to grow.
As my score grows, I intend to open other credit accounts to grow it even more. I don't want to get too deep in debt again, so I'm being wise. For instance. I have enough cash on hand to buy the new refrigerator for my house, but instead I'm financing it and using the cash to make the payments. Sure, I have to pay interest, but it is increasing my credit score by having an open account that is paid regularly as promised.

Write to Experian. They will send you a credit report for £2 and you will probably find that half of it is old and needs removing and some of it is rubbish and can be removed. Do it now though because it takes a while and like you say xmas is round the corner. Good luck.

save up dont get credit. simple you havent got good credit so cant get any more.
i have bad credit and learnt my lesson the hard way.
i wouldnt dare get any more if you cant afford xmas presents then dont get anyone anything, tough if you cant afford it people will understand.
you will end in more debt if you get more cards etc. adn if you apply more than once in 6 months it stays on your record and you wont be able to get credit for another 4-6months. good luck.

In this country I don't know, but I think the best idea is to solve first you old problem and then try to get fresh credit.
