It depends upon the state's guidelines. Best bet is to get a good attorney and have him present your case to the court. The court will take into consideration extenuating circumstances such as income and ability to pay.

If the child lives with the mother then in many states it's 30% of what your husband earns.

It doesn't matter how much money the step-father makes. It's not his responsibility to support your husbands child.

i dont know where you are but here in alabama it doesnt matter what the step parents make on either side, it goes by his visitation if any and the cost of living. for instance my husband and i make about 25 thousand more than my ex husband and his wife, i have 3 kids by my ex and he pays me $680. a month because he gets them every other weekend and every other holiday. the best thing to do is call a lawyer and just ask. you dont have to give them your name or any personal information just to ask. good luck

around 25% of his income goes towards child support for one child but if he has more then one child with more then one mother its 25% for each case . I know how you feel my husband is in the same boat and its frustrating

my mother has to collect child support for my 16 year old brother, and the court awarded 725.00 a month for him. when he was 6 it was about 250.00 a month. it goes up as they get older she says.

typically it's 25% of take home pay. Varies from state to state, though.
