2 - 3. The first one is done very early to size and date the pregnancy, usually around 6 - 10 weeks. The most accurate dating comes when the pregnancy is very early. The earlier the better. The second is done at around 20 weeks to evaluate the health of the pregnancy. If there is a third, it is only if you sense there might be a problem. There could be more if there is complications or concerns, but generally, in a very normal situation, there is only 2.

I don't believe there is a set number required. The purpose of an ultrasound is to ensure that all of the systems are developing properly. One may be enough if the technician can get a good look at everything. More may be required if the technician cannot get a good look at, for example, the heart or the facial bones.

usually only one, if the pregnancy is normal. if you have placenta previa (like I do), then you will have one every month to check the position of the placenta. If you have tests done to see if the baby is developing ok and they come up that something might be wrong, they will give you the option of having an ultrasound to determine if the baby has any physical defects.

With a normal preganacy I would say 2. My fist pregnancy the baby was breech and I had pre- term labor so I had about 9. This time I have had 3 they did the last one because they thought I was further along and wanted to measure how big baby was to move up my EDD

It depends on your doctor. I had an ultrasound at almost every appointment. I think most women get two though.

if you know the time of conception you would normally have one around 18-20 weeks to check growth etc. you can also find out the babies sex at this one if you want to. if your not sure on your dates they will give you one early to estimate how pregnant you are, then your normal one around 18 weeks. but most of the time it's only one unless they believe there is a problem with growth .
