Must be fairly cheap per plant as i have large area to cover ( around 60 m ). Would like very fast growing plant.

leylandi - but as one other answerer has said, they are not great. They must be cut every year and this is a nightmare job if you have a large area to cover, especially when they get tall. If you cut into them too much they go brown and die. I have a leylandi hedge and I hate it. No good for wildlife either. Why not try hawthorn instead? No hedge is goind to be instant.

Cypress ... Leylandi are growing slowly and are dying from frost, drought, disease ... why can they not stay alive?

Leylandi look good and easy to keep.

I'd look at different types of juniper and yews.
