Not at all!

You just need to configure your settings, and most of the time, XP will do that for you, automatically!

If all you are changing is the modem, which is a small about paperback book size card inside the computer that the phone line plugs into, then you will not need to reinstall XP. You might have to run a driver install for the new modem that will come on a CD with the modem. You might also have to rerun the set up for your Internet connection if you use dial-up.

If, like I have seen in the past, by modem you mean the entire computer box that holds the hard drive, system board, processor, memory, CD drive, etc., then yes, you would have to reinstall Windows (and everything else) on the new box.

The Answer is no.

Win XP usually detects the modem and will attempt to install the Drivers.

If it does not find the appropriate drives it will ask you to search for the drivers at this point you will put in the driver CD that came with the Modem. just browse to the Drivers and locate the .inf file
and it will install the drivers for you and that's it.

You don't need to install Windows XP again but you might need to install the drivers of the modem if the modem is not plug and play.

No, XP should recognize the device. If Windows asks for an instillation disc then place the disc you received with your new modem into the CD drive. In most cases, Windows will install the driver without additional information.

No. Windows XP should actually detect the new modem and install the driver for it.

I wouldn't have thought so. XP should recognise the new hardware (modem) and automatically help you to set it up through one of it's Wizards.

No. Just the drivers (should come with the modem on a CD).
