Well you can learn to speak the common language at the place you are in. So if you settle in Morroco then you will learn Arabic that is common there which is different of what you learn if you settle in Palestine. The shared formal Arabic language which is called "Alfoseha" is pretty difficult to learn for foreigners especially those who have simple first language.
I'm Arab by the way and sometimes while I'm reading in Arabic book I say it would be so difficult for someone who learnt Arabic and thought they are fluent in Arabic to realise the meaning of all in this book if they read it.
And I think whatever someone who there first language is not Arabic think they are good in Arabic, they would never reach the whole understanding of this great language.
It is not because Arabic is my mother tongue language; it is because I studied other languages and found it different.
But in all account I encourage all to learn Arabic language because they would discover the impact on their lives.

Arabic is one of the worlds hardest languages to learn. I have been living in an arab speaking country for over a year now and let me tell you I still only know the bare minimum. It is very difficult also since different arab speaking countries speak different dialects of the language. For example, In Morocco there are two different dialects moroccan arabic and berber trust me they sound nothing alike. Then you have Egyptian Arabic which is completly different than the arabic spoken in morocco. And the list goes on. So in my broken arabic as people say to me Inshallah anti gitlik arabia mmzien. Good Luck. I think I will need another 10 years here before I will even learn the language properly.

It is some what, the reason is that there are lot of new letters that makes it difficult for the beginner. and in Arabic usually vowels are not used, so it becomes difficult for intermediates. Anyway, it is a wonderful language to learn. I like it.

No, it's not. In fact many English words come from Arabic. The writng system is different, which makes it look a little daunting at first, but learning the language itself is as easy as learning any other foreign language.

I think it is because they don't use letters as we do, but I have a slight understanding, my husband is Maltese and his language contains a lot of Arabic words so when I hear it spoken I can pick up some words, but I could never write it.
