I believe the book is well-researched and was based on ideas that were old before Dan Brown heard of them. But it is still a work of fiction. It's meant ultimately to entertain, not to inform. Certainly, if it leads you to do your own research, that's a good thing (in my opinion).

The fact is, a lot of the truth is buried with history...there are rarely accurate records of people having a relationship and this is probably no exception.

Glad you enjoyed the film though. It's true, you should read it, it's terrific!

To fully appriciate the film, you have to read the book, as the book contains so much interesting trivia that the film leaves out. There are certain threads within the book, that seem to make sense. Although, if this subject interests you, I definately recommend 'The Holy Blood and The Holy Grail'. It is book the Da Vinci Code was based upon, going into greater detail about the blood-line of Jesus and the Merovingian dynasty.

Actually, no... discovery channel made a documentary about it and said that it is 100% pure fiction, the movie is just so convincing because its based on real people, check the "Last Supper Painting" count the number of people, you would notice that there are only 13 people (Jesus included) and there are only 12 apostles, so mary magdalene is'nt present in the painting, and most scholars agree that the so called "Mary Magdalene" in the picture is actually Saint John (poor him, mistaken as a woman) so dont believe everything that was said there, keep on believing in God!

whoa u r a late comer to this whole thing na. should read the book it will manage to convince you a lot more that it is all true. most of the facts presented are true as far as the paintings and artworks go the rest are all interpretations. the priory of sion is all wrong, look up the net and u will find that it was founded in the 19th century. and then its a matter of faith. how does it concern neone whether Jesus chose to marry or not??? it doesnot make or break the man.

If you are Christian then you must understand that Jesus is subject to insult and every false theory. Can you ask yourself why This man has been calumnieted since he was on earth?
Let me tell you, because He is the only one who changed the destiny of all nation under the sun. Let Dan make money with false stories and let people buy it but as you something can Dan write something on islam....I bet no.

Sounds like you fell for it. Hello, it's FICTION! They didn't portray Jesus or Mary Magdalene honestly, it was a portrayal meant to sell books and put cheeks in the seats when it came to movie time. It wasn't even original thought, I'd seen books for the last 20 years saying that Jesus had kids with Mary Magdalene and that European royalty is descended from them. Yeah, right.

the 'facts' the film depicts are based on accounts of the book holy blood holy grail, and the finding of these scrolls

The problem is, is that the writers of the holy blood holy grail admitted shortly before dan browns books release that the facts were actually a hoax,

for instance, the priory of sion is not real, no scrolls were ever found, well they were, but thye were hoaxed

I read this book and was amazed, but then i heard this, and now it is a mediocre fictional story

Pure fiction on the Author's part. Some scholars think there are grains of truth somewhere, with the French and Roman Catholic Church up to shenanigans in Medieval times.

the photo of the last supper was probably da vinci having a pop at the catholic church it seems unlikely he would have painted a male looking like that, da vinci didnt think much of the catholic church that is accepted generally by historians, Michaelangelo painted the sixtinth chapel he put subversive messages in it to (gates of hell in the background etc) he also thought very little of the catholic church

If you read the book first (which was quite corny and perfect for film) then the film makes perfect sense..... there are lots and lots of theories surrounding this - you should read Holy Blood Holy Grail as well and then make your own mind up (the authors of this book took Dan Brown to court for plagiarism but lost)!

Hope this helps.
