lets say the estimate is for $1,000.00. tell him to give you sixteen hundred dollars or you will let the insurance company handle it. his rates are about to go sky high!!!

You are not obliged to sign it, so don't. Always leave your options open. I know the accident was a minor one, but with major accidents sometimes side effects (especially psychological problems) may appear months (or a year) later. However i think you have only a year to claim that kind of stuff, then your time is up.

If i was you (and you have had lots of checkup's with your doctor, and know (for certain) there is nothing else wrong with you (or the car)), i would sign it on the condition the other "party" gives you a little cash... lol, but thats just me.

Ask the Garage for a detailed estimate. Explain the situation to them Then sign!

If you sign you are giving up the right to recover for any future claims that may arise out of this incident. I wouldn't sign unless I knew the car was fixed and that I won't have any medical situation arising.
