I don't think I would be as knowlegable and I'm sure that I would be another faceless statistic.

It's true that American artist such as Chuck Jones and Walt Disney influenced anime, but Osamu Tezuka and Shirow Masamune made it possible for anime to deviate from it's western counterpart. The expression "all cartoons are anime, but all anime are not cartoons" is true. I believe that anime has evolved beyond a means of entertainment. It's the only animated form that can address the issues of society without limitations. I learned so many valuable lessons from manga and anime. I learned that to dream is to live from One Piece. I learned compassion for humanity from Gundam and I even learned about love. "A sinner once passed away will never return, but sins will never vanish and the love will never die."-Noir.

Most of my views about the world came from anime, I don't think I would be the same person I am today if it didn't exist. I can honestly say that a life without Anime/cartoons/manga or comics is a life I'm not sure I would like to live.

I think that this world would be a lot sadder if none of those even existed. Comics are the product of an active imagination.

If American comics never existed, then none of the talented artists that create manga in Japan wouldn't have been made. And as a result, no anime.

Life without anime/manga itself wouldnt be that bad. There would be less nerds running rampant on the planet. The only costume play would be on halloween only and it would be mostly ghostface, freddy kruger, and other stupid costumes. Many of the nerds that have been tainted by anime might have better lives. Moving out of their parent's house and get a decent job. And the economy would be lowered slightly due to that there will be no fanservice of certain characters which would make fans buy merchandise that bear their image. I think it would be a better world if theres no anime in everyday lives.

Now, cartoons in general on the other hand. The world would be more dull. And i wouldnt live in a world like that. Comics too if it's comic strips.

I'd say it's not worth living cos come on! You need your own imaginary world to go to when everything is grey and boring and bright, happy and cheerful characters help create your own little fantasy Utopia in your mind.

Plus, all the great comic artists would have done completely different jobs and I would be a boring bored wing-nut.

I'd have two answers for that.

If you took away anime now, I don't know what I'd do with my life. When I started anime two years ago, I got hooked so whenever I'm bored, or have nothing else more important to think about, I find that I end up thinking of anime. Anime has become a very important part of my life.

But, if you took away anime before it even existed, then, how'd a person react to something that never even influenced their life? Haha...

It is boring.
But if animation, cartoons, manga, comics doesn't exist in the first place no one will be bored and every one may play games and they will try something what makes happier for their life.

Lately, I realized that there really is a bad side to anime. But what the hell...so is everything else. I've been spending my last few months joining campaigns against anti-anime campaigns. Anime haters don't want animes to air in their places bcoz they think animes aren't children oriented programs. HUH???? Are you telling me you don't want them to watch animes but you let them watch WWE??? Whatta...

Hey newsflash!!! ANimes are not strictly for children. There are certain anime genres (yaoi, yuri, hentai, and echi) that are not meant for minors!!!

But having that argument is not enough to sway anti-anime campaigners...

What's my point? Well, just lately I made another realization.

Like you, I also came to point when I asked myself the same question. And I realized that "OMG!" if anime never existed I would get stuck with japanese sentais or chinese soap operas or wacky cartoons like pink panther and popeye (I have nothing against any of that shows). I wouldn't have known the value of honor (and the bushido code) from Kenshin or the value of courage from Naruto or the meaning of life ifromTsukasa (.hack//sign) or the meaning of friendship from Luffy or the meaning of reality from the Animatrix (it's anime, trust me) or the meaning of love from Love of the Condor Heroes. or the meaning of freedom from Gundam WIng and the meanings and values of so many more ideas. . . Off course I could have learn it elsewhere, but watching anime didn't only taught me so many values and meanings it also brought my imagination to farther lengths... it made me think and wonder and wander then dream and imagine. It made a part of me free from harsh constructs of every day reality. Anime may just be a 30-minute show you see on TV on a primetime schedule but for me it has become a passion. It has become something I will continue to pursue, to watch, and to enjoy for the rest of my life. Others may think it's a nerd thing but they just don't see the real beauty of anime. They can never see past those 30 minutes of airtime. They can never see past those wonderful art for they don't even know what beauty really is. They will never see the abstrusity of anime unless they will first try to accept the fact that anime is making quite a stir around the globe because anime is really not as stupid and simple as they think it is.

As for me, I've been planning to go back to my former alma mater --University of the Philippines; and join their anime club. I will still continue my support to anime clubs who have made a stand against online anti-anime campaigns.

P.S. that was a good question

Tell me about it, man. Some of the cartoons made here are so dry. In fact most of my art is influenced by anime.

I'd have to agree with you...Animation and other such artforms are my LIFE, I reckon I'd be a very grey and depressed person without them ^^
