If he feels like he needs to punish her, and spanking is the way he wants to do it, then is it okay too? I hear a lot of husbands punish their wives like that.

Sandstorm, you have a way of putting the spanking lifestyle in the most unfavorable light possible, you know that? Your scenarios always go further than any realistic domestic discipline relationship would allow, and always attracts those that would condemn us for our interests. Is it too much to ask that present some manner of decorum, rather than making us all look like asses? I've spoken at length in my blog about how BDSM and spanking have been portrayed in the media, and why the public at large is so unable to understand what we do. Most either see the lifestyle as entirely focused on sex, or the makings of abusive relationships. Why must you add to that? Do you even have a serious interest in spanking, or are you just hear to smear us with extremist parodies of the lifestyle?

If it's a turn-on for both of them, then sure. And of course it may well involve some play-acting at 'punishment' - "You've been such a naughty girl", etc.
If it's genuine punishment for something the wife's supposed to have done wrong, that becomes more problematic. Though even then there are couples who practise DD (Domestic Discipline), where one or both of them (more commonly the woman) gets spanked, and for many of them it seems to work just fine.
The key word, I guess, is 'consensual'. If the wife willingly agrees to being spanked, either for erotic fun or punishment, then I can't see that any outsider has the right to object. But if she's coerced into it, physically or psychologically, it's definitely not ok.

If they both enjoy it as part of sexual activity then fair enough, each to their own. But if the husband is hitting his wife against her will then that is ABUSE AND IS NOT ON. NO human being had the right to hurt another. A marriage is an equal partnership based on love and respect. What is love and respectful about beating another person? No one has the right to hurt another. As someone else said, marriage is not about ownership or control, it is about equal love. If the wife is being beaten she needs to escape from the partner straight away!

I think it is ok as long as both parties agree. Who knows she may very well enjoy the spanking and have memories of her father spanking her as well

Women aren't children and they aren't owned by their husbands. They're equal partners. Do you spank your friends that don't agree with you? Then WHY would you allow it in a marriage?

I think it all depends on the person being spanked. i mean, i have told myself, NO MAN will ever hit/spank me. not even my hubby. Spanking is never the solution. no one is perfect so, if he hits me when i do something wrong, well then he shud also allow me to spank him when he does something wrong to me.
i think it all depends on your culture n beliefs

If the wife agrees sure why not. If she doesn't agree then he is an abuser who is assaulting his wife. sounds like you're looking for justification for your husbands actions.
