There was heavy rain and I drove my car into an intersection where there was a lot of water. I didn't know that the water level was that high until it was too late. My car stalled The water level wasn't high enough to get into the interior of my car, but it was high enough to make it stall. It wasn't left in the deep water for too long. I had help pushing it out of the water after several minutes. I tried to start the car again. The starter cranked, but there is no combustion. I was wondering if any serious damage has been done to the car. It was not flooded up to the windshield like the ones you see in the news.

You should be Ok, you just need to let the engine dry itself out. Probably overnight. Open the hood and wipe down everything . The wires especially. If you have a distributor cap, remove it and wipe it dry. Spark will not travel to the spark plugs if everything is wet.
good luck....

Sounds like your ignition system got drenched, that's why the car shut-off after hitting the water. It was very common in the "olden" days when cars had carbeurators. You didn't mention the age of your car, but even today, the ignition system is susceptible to water. Just that the newer models are better insulated. Really think the system just needs to dry out. If you do have points in the car, you can remove the cover and spray something like carb cleaner or anything alcohol-based. It will evaporate and dry the water out with it. There's a special spray at most parts store designed to evaporate water. good luck

Ask your public library or go online to find an auto manual that will fit the general description of your vehicle. This will help you to do some troubleshooting and see how much damage is done.

dont have any idea what kind of vehicle but most newer vehicles(92-up) have a crank trigger that runs off the balancer behind the front pulley.if this was submerged then it is probably dirty or shot . check for spark if none this is where i would start.

Give it time to dry out, spray all the leads etc. with damp start. Get it jump started if necesary and give it a good run. Hopefully all will be ok.
