How come they are not considered an all time great?

the reason is this....americans as a whole choose music that is on the radio....americans don't understand true music for it's intent.....people need to look at talent...hello geddy lee plays bass, sings, play with the moog pedals , and plays keyboards at the same time.
alex lifeson , awesome guitarist, his chordal things are just amazing.
what else can i say about Neil....that drummer is a madman and an octopus...never seen a drummer like him ever.
Americans don't understand that it's 3 people on stage and u think it's 5 - 7 people on stage.
I love Progressive rock, even though i am an american i listen to foreign music more

These days, most people only care about a catchy chorus. They find complex music to be either boring or annoying. It's the same reason why other progressive rock, older rock, most form of metal (not metalcore/nu-metal), classical music, kelzmer, and jazz aren't very popular either.
P.S. Rush is awesome. "YYZ" in Guitar Hero 2!!!

Back in the 80s they weren't underrated. I knew a lot of people, especially musicians, who thought they were awesome.

Because Geddy Lee's Voice sounds not unlike cats fighting, or nails on a chalk board....but the music's decent

A lot of Canadian Bands do not get the recognition they deserve, Rush is an awesome Canadian ROCK icon :):):)

Because everybody is busy saying how great Led Zepplin when live there no cohesiveness to the. They seem to be play independly du to Jimmy Pape going all over the place with regard to his band mates.
