Ruthless no. Aggressive yes.

You need to be on the ball for everything in business, to be ahead, and to stay ahead. But still, the aggressiveness must be padded with emotional qualities and humane side.
Without those, no employees would be willing to work his/her heart out for the company. Success doesn't really lie on the one person at the top.. it depends on the multi level down below. If the top is ruthless, and appears to be success, yet the ones working below him are not happy, it would weaken the base and structure of the company...thus, like the previous post, it will not last long, indeed!

It depends how much money you want to make. McDonald's makes around 600 billion a year and they are ruthless, but if you don't mind making a little less money a year you could be successful and rich without being ruthless.

Ruthlessness can help to a degree, but that is the easy way out; a tactic utilized only by people with little imagination, Moreover, anything won by ruthlessness is often not of the highest quality and more often does not last. Truly exceptional people find a way to succeed by respect, not fear.
