sure, he/she must be the lucky kid in the world of Gotham, 'cause he/she would have so many cool toys in Bat Cave

Talia my uninformed friend is The Daughter of Ras Ah Ghul, and has a love/hate relationship with the Bat. I think it is cool, but it will probably come back to bite the Dark Knight in the A** if you know what I mean.

That would be Talia, Ra's Al Ghul's daughter. I for one am fine with the idea of Bats getting some, and I think that she is a better match for him than most. However, I think that anything like that should be left out of continuity. Shame on Grant Morrison for changing that.

Point One: That girl is Talia al Ghul, the DAUGHTER of Ra's Al Ghul. This makes the kid Ra's grandson.

Point Two: I think it is an interesting story idea and they should totally roll with it. But, from what I remember from the story, the kid inherited more of his grandpa's personality then his fathers. He is a sadistic, bratty, snobbish little boy.

First it is Ra's al Ghul, and I believe you are talking of his Daughter, Talia, who has romantic interest in Batman and both know he is Bruce Wayne.

In the old days, Batman was the first to have a kid sidekick (Robin). It looks like they are trying to make Batman cutting edge again, by giving him an illegitemate son. But Green Arrow already beat him in that respect, so it really isn't necessary.

If you are referring to Talia, she is the daughter of Ra's al Ghul (al Ghul means 'the demon', so she is the daughter of the demon, as Ra's is the 'head' of the demon; the leader of the cult of assassins.)

When Batman first met them, Ra's had decided that Batman would be the best successor to him, in his position as the head of the cult of assassins. Naturally, Batman is dedicated to crime-fighting, and would have nothing to do with leading such an organization. But Talia fell in love with him.

In the movie, it was shown that Bruce Wayne received his training from the cult of assassins. (In the comics, Ra's figured out Wayne was Batman by checking to see who had bought the things that only Baman had.)

In a 'black-and-white', i.e., not part of the regular continuity, Batman was 'married' to Talia in a ceremony which, Ra's said, did not require the groom's consent, and is regarded as legal in Ra's homeland. (It is implied that Ra's is either islamic or follows a pre-islamic animistic tribal faith, probably nature-related)

Wayne and Talia spent a wedding night together and supposedly she had a son by him.

It is not that Wayne (always portrayed as a playboy, even before the establishment of the famous men's magazine by that name) would object or be unfamiliar with the romantic company of glamorous women, but Batman thinks logically and plans clearly.

It seems clear that Talia wanted his child to secure Wayne's affections, and almost certainly Ra's wanted her to have a child by which he could put pressure on Batman. It is inconceivable that Batman would agree to this, for that would effectively be surrendering to them. It is also, shall we say, highly unlikely that he simply did not think of the possible consequences.

Considering the ways in which society has chanced since Batman was introduced, the current writers may not see the abovementioned strategic error that having a child by Talia would be. Possibly one or more of them simply wanted to update Wayne, making him seem more like real men of wealth and prestige, being a self-indulgent libertine.

But that is no part of Batman's character! If they do not see that Batman would have the self-discipline to avoid sex with women who were gold-diggers or had other unacceptible motives, they are unable to understand the motives of the characer and have lost the ability to write Batman effectively.

I think that it is a poor idea, to have an illegitemate son for Batman. Batman's chief passion is for justice, not for sex. He is too careful a planner to have an illegitemate child. Either they will have to get rid of the kid by some kid of retcon, or they will ruin the Batman's entire image.

Batman's super power, so to speak, is his self-discipline-- to train his whole life long, to be willing to spend the years of his youth preparing, and to fight crime with all the resources at his disposal, without discouragement or despair at the seeming impossibility of the task. A man with that kind of self-discipline just doesn't go having kids without thinking it through carefuly first!

To think otherwise does not humanize Batman; it only betrays the personal weaknesses of the writers who are unable to understand not giving in to a glamorous and physically desirable woman on the sperm of the moment.

That is what makes them unable to write Batman. Not just morally unfit-- they are lacking in imagination, to be able to put themselves into the character's place, without trying to re-write him in their own image. It is tempting, I'm sure. But the character is not theirs to do that with as they see fit.

I don't think Batman should be having a son with anyone. He's cool as an eligible bachelor or divorcee....

It could't be. Batman is a honest hero. I don't think he would do it with anygirls.
