No, not in America anyhow. I had it done a few years ago, and it hurts pretty bad for a few minutes. It didn't hurt the way I expected it to though. Instead of felling like someone is cutting me it felt like a really bad menstrual pain. My doctor used a camera and televison to see exactly where he was going and I had the option of watching the televiison too and I did, but I regretted it afterward. If I hadn't have watched I don't think it would have been so painful. Think about it an anesthetic shot in the cervix would hurt nearly as much as the procedure itself. All they do is take a sharp pinching tool and clip off a piece of cervix. Sounds horrible and it does hurt, but it's really not that awful. In America this procedure is called a Colposcopy by the way.

There should only be very mild bleeding, and no pain at all (very few nerve endings there). They use an instrument that looks like a tiny hole punch (like the one you punch 1 hole in paper). The specimen they take is about as big as 1/4 a pencil eraser. You may want to take a couple Ibuprofen just in case you have some cramping after wards, but the whole thing sounds much worse than it is.

don't ask...Demand.
I once had a cervical biopsy without anything for pain.
It does hurt. they should at the very least give you Novocaine to numb your cervix.
