Modern names.....depends on what you mean by that. (something like Apple? Or maybe Peach?? Of course parents are free to chose their baby's name, but I do hope that, should you want a "modern" name like the ones above, you will stop first to picture if your child will be happy in school with a name like that? Will your kid be grateful to you for a modern name?)
Of course names of the past can also turn modern again. ;=)
With that in mind my suggestions are :
Girl : Tessa (second name : Marie.....I don't particulary like the name Marie, but IMHO those two names sound well together)
Boy : Troy (second name : Steven)

Natalie for a girl. Nigel for a boy.
For the middle names you can keep them as the names of your parents' names. You can use your mother's name as the girl's middle name & ur partner's father's name as the boy's middle name.
Also you can keep names depending on ur intials. Presuming your real name is Krystal keep the boy's name in K & the girl's name in your partner's initial...Buy's names in K are Kyle, Kenan, Kenneth...

my boys names are Devon first name and lucas for middle name. Andrew first name and Todd for middle name . But i like rebbeca for a girl or maria maybe but pick names that have meaning to them but make sure you do dont pick names that are easy to tease and do not pick to weird of names. Good luck you should pick up a baby book name because they list names of girls and boys names and they have the meaning of those names too.
GOOD LUCK
