Truth is more important and truth is more useful...

Tell the truth because...
By telling lies you only create short sighted wins and long term loses.
By telling the truth you find a more righteouss path in life because you have discarded a tool which allows one to repeat the same mistakes and cover them with lies.
You become a better and more wholesome person because you have true confidence in what you do and other people see that.

Honesty, Humility and Integrity will take you very far in life.
Peace...

Yoshi K : A great question ! To answer your question in a "nut" shell, TRUTH is MOST important opposed to a lie. A lie is convenient but isn't the truth! You see; truth is REALITY whereas, lies are not reality. When you attempt to "build" on a lie opposed to truth, you are building on false reality! False reality or a lie when it runs its course, will inevitably result in trouble and sometimes BIG trouble. The consequences are not always immediate and may take a lot of time to come to fruition. Truth will offer knowledge in its purest form when conceived but is not always welcome. Germany and Japan during the second World War used lies to mold their citizens into a fighting machine. It took awhile and millions of lives to see where these lies were taking people. The truth was that Germany was not the "master race" and the Japanese Emperor was not a sun god! Both lies and truth are subjugated to time and as the saying goes, "only time will tell" - it will tell the truth. By the way, a "half-truth" is the most effective lie available.

Truth is more important. Everything depends on the truth. Everything is the way it is because of the truth. Lies are puny in comparison. Lies are actually the truth; every lie is merely an ugly truth, they are things that truly occur, truly come out of people's mouths. Lies cannot change the truth. The question of which is more useful depends on what you are trying to accomplish. If you're trying to **** something up, then (you're an ***-wipe, and) lies are great. If you want to understand, learn or be understood try the truth.

I would challange anyone here to define truth to everyone's satisfaction. If something's true, than it must be absolute and pure. However, I doubt anyone could find anything that everyone can agree on, so there cannot be truth. Further, truth doesn't even exist outside of a mind; it's not an object, but a mere idea, and therefore it can change or cease to be. Truth to be true must hold true always and forever, but it can't. Because it can't exist, truth must therefore be unimportant. When truth doesn't exist, it can't be used, therefore truth is not useful.

In contrast, people claim to know the truth. They may be deluding themselves or merely cynical, but the manipulation of ideas about truth is an extremely useful lie. Indeed, the role that a nonexistant truth has played in human history and in our future proves that this lie is also preeminantly important.

I would contest that lies hold power to those whom they can convince, but no lie is so great that everyone is decieved. This, of course, is because not everyone will agree to the same thing. So, the trick is to convince enough people with your lies that they're effective, but trying to convince everyone is a waste of effort. To see this in action, watch politics.

Sure, I'd love to tell the truth all the time. But, that just isn't practical. I have a job I want to keep, I don't want to be labeled crazy....quite frankly, there are things people don't need to know about me. So lies are better and more useful in my case.

Truth.
When you start lying it is hard to stop. One lie leads to another and then another and another and soon you are lie all the time just to stay out of trouble.
Truth is useful. If you always tell the truth others will resepest you more. Want to be someone who is dishonest and shady in others eyes just keep lying? You dig a deeper and deeper hole that will and can bury you. It is never worth it in the long run.

Well think about it. If the government told us EVERYTHING instead of lying all the time. We'd all be crazy. So it depends on the situation.

Useful to lie
But its important to tell the truth.
