The egg.
Whatever laid the egg was ALMOST a hen.

The genes in that animal evolved to produce the modern day hen.
From that first hen egg, the hen was hatched.

Theoretically, one day the last hens will lay eggs that contain an evolved version that is better suited to its environment than the hens of today.
Those offspring will naturally multiply and take over the niche that once belonged to the hen--and perhaps other animals!

Well , this has a real answer to it - the embryo developed first , you do know that like ameoba , it can have cell multiplication , after the embryo dialated into two , many eggs were laid , and thats how hens came !

Neither , It was the rooster he was feeling cocky so god made a hen to calm him down. Woops there was an egg, where did that come from?
