I suppose my "memory" goes back to about 1953. I grew up in a little dink town in Southeast Oklahoma that perhaps, because of its size and location, didn't enjoy some of the amenities available at the time, but there was certainly no air conditioning, a lot of folks still had out houses, what was called deodorant didn't work and everybody, men and women alike, smelled like hell, if bread was a nickel a loaf, keep in mind a man only made maybe $40 a week, and all we had for medical care was an orthopedist come general practitioner. Other things we didn't have were ulcers, therapists, drug problems, drive-by shootings, armed robberies, divorce, and the threat of god knows who having the "bomb." Korea was probably a mistake, but you can't win 'em all.
Given the choice between then and now, I'll take then. I'd rather sweat and stink and freeze my butt off outside takin' a dump than worry and sweat in the stinkin' mess we're figuratively freezing our butts off living in now. In short, the only thing that's changed for the better is technology, and that ain't enough improvement to justify the new born chaos.

Perhaps... there are some things that I wish had not changed. I lost my childhood home because of an industrialization of what was once a simple little town... those were the old days... when that town was peaceful, when the people were friendly... but I think on a large scale, the world is slightly better. Think of it this way: Martin Luther King wouldn't have to make much effort to get what he needs out of his rights.

In a way yes, but in the other way no! We have come far in nower days with things such as technology which makes a huge differance but i do miss the "good old days. I very rarely see kids playing outside with a bike or a ball. Nooo.. they're too busy with computer games and ipods etc.. Its sad, esp. x-mas day! The fashion however has definatly come a long way! I look bak at old photos and wanna die when i see how i was dressed. But it wouldnt be life without change so i enjoy every second!

The only reason the good old days were better is because there was less technology and entertainment and everybody did everything more face to face and in the moment. Life could be felt more. These days everything is like a copy of a copy on a Xerox machine.

No, they haven't. The world just goes way too fast nowadays...people don't care about each other like they used to. We go through our lives with a telephone attached to our head, our nose in a computer screen, somebody else caring for our kids. We kill each other because we want your shoes, or your money, or your car, or for power, or for no reason. Everybody is sick from SMOG and pesticides and drug use and famine. Old people eat dog food so they can afford medications. Children have babies, then they beat them or leave them in dumpsters. We cut down all the trees and build roads to get us nowhere faster. No...it's definitely not better.

I don't think so. We have more technology, but we have more disease as well. When I was younger we didn't have AIDS to contend with or Herpes for that matter. The worst thing you could get, and thank goodness I never did, was an STD that could be cured with a simple shot of antibiotics. (And, I'm not THAT old. AIDS isn't either.) What a sad world we live in today.

Sure they were because we were younger and go do more &
enjoy it more. Modern times are all right with advances in all
areas of communication making the world a little bit smaller. I
was just sending an answer to someone in Scotland.

No , certainly not. Things have not just got worse they are getting worse by the day.
Years ago we use to be able to leave our windows and doors open not now.
If I had my way, I would like to go right back to the "Little House on the Praire" days.

Memory plays tricks about what we remember. Forgetting some of the bad allows us to survive!!
Some things have improved, such as unleaded gas. I remember how horribly polluted city air was when I was a kid, it is much better now.
