I've gotten great deals at both the Venetian and Bellagio. Bellagio is more centrally located, but Venetian has bigger rooms.

I have found that it really pays to look around. Check out the prices on different websites online. Then call the hotels directly and ask what is the best deal you can get....tell them what kind of discounts you might qualify for.(AAA, AARP, Entertainment, government rate, etc.). I often get the best deals by doing this. If your paycheck is issued by a city, county, state, or the federal gov't a copy of your check stub should get you a govt. rate.

Have fun!

It varies so much depending on the time you're going and what's going on there, so the best thing for you to do is check the following websites:

http://www.cheapovegas.com - will give you a good idea of what each place is like

http://www.expedia.com - will give you pretty much the absolute BEST rate for the specific dates you're thinking of going

Some suggestions based on my personal experience that pop up all the time are:

Off-strip:
The Orleans
The Gold Coast

On the strip:
The Flamingo
The Sahara
The Tropicana
The Excalibur

Downtown:
The Plaza
The Lady Luck
The Vegas Club

My recommendation is that you go for either the Orleans or Gold Coast if you are going to have a car (your own or a rental). They are off-strip but very close to the strip, and they are probably the best values for the money.

If you want to stay on the strip, the Flamingo is good for a strip hotel and the Sahara will probably be the cheapest. You may find a good deal for the Tropicana or Monte Carlo also, or the Barbary Coast.

Downtown they are all usually cheaper than the strip but they are smaller, more like motel rooms. However, they are all clean and sufficient for a Vegas vacation, I have always been pleased staying downtown, especially because sometimes those are the absolute cheapest rooms and you get a nice, clean room in a fun area.

Don't get too hung up on the room, you won't be in there much. You'll only sleep and shower in your room. That's how Vegas is. All you need is a clean place, and they're all clean, based on my experience.

Every hotel I have mentioned in my answer is a hotel I've personally stayed in, so I highly recommend any of them, just decide where you want to be (I recommend the strip or off-strip for your first time) and then find the one that has the best deal for your planned dates/times. As I said, Expedia.com will give you great rates.

Have a great time in Vegas, I'm sure you'll love it!!!

I just got back from my first trip to Vegas and stayed at the Tropicana where I got a great rate on my room. Less than $50 a night on an upgraded room. I got their players card and gambled very little. They doubled my comps and I got $20 off my room at check out and saw 2 different shows for free. I agree the rooms are dated a bit but that is why I went for an upgrade. The rooms were very clean however and comfortable. I would stay there again without hesitating. My only beef was I thought the casino area had an odd kinda smell to it, like dust in the air but I got used to it and the hotel wasn't like that at all.

I am going to Vegas on 8th November and I am staying in the Hotel Tropicana. Its on the same block as Excalibur, New York New York & the MGM Grand, so its in a very good position. It was the ceapest central strip hotel. The rooms look pretty dated but clean.
Circus Circus & The Stratosphere are much cheaper than any hotel on the centre of the strip. These two hotels are clean and well kept but they are right at the North End of the strip.

If you want to stay on The Strip, I suggest The Imperial Palace. The rooms aren't very fancy (think Motel 6), but you won't spend much time in the room anyway. Its right in the middle of The Strip. If you get a room facing The Strip, you'll have a view of the volcano at The Mirage and the fountains at The Bellagio.

When I go I usually go to the Plaza, because they usually offer the room dirt cheap (last time I went I spent $30 total for 2 weekday nights)... the hotel itself isn't very exciting, but you can walk to any of the downtown casinos and enjoy that fremont street experience too... which is cool. Anywhere downtown is fun and laid back. If you don't want to stay downtown I would suggest for you to get a las vegas advisor and clip a coupon! There's so many amazing deals on so many things a las vegas advisor will pay for itself.

Go to the resort that fits the theme and location you want!

None of the hotels in Las Vegas are expensive, at least as far as standard rooms are concerned. In fact, you'd have a hard time finding a hotel room over $100.00 (perhaps Bellagio and Wynn, but that's it).

For the highly reasonable $89.00 NY, NY and MGM Grand charges for a room, you could rent a cardboard box in the real Manhattan and L.A.

Most casinos don't make the bulk of their profit from your room rate (that's what they use to lure you in)... they make it from the overpriced food, drinks, shopping, shows, and of course, gambling losts.

Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, the excellent Bowl, and the huge convention weekends are very busy in Vegas, and the charges are plenty bigger in the time of those circumstances. NASCAR and national Finals Rodeo are additionally substantial Vegas activities. you've got been looking up dates that coincided with considered one of those activities or a huge convention - attempt to cost some diverse weekends in case you are able to, and you may locate some that are plenty extra low fee than others.

Have never seen a "cool" hotel room. Not going to be in it much so just save $$ & forget the nonsense. Downtown or Sams Town or Gold Coast all cheaper than Strip & fine.

You can get deluxe rooms at the Mirage and Treasure Island for $79 ($86.11 with tax) right now - depending on WHEN you travel. I just booked a couple of rooms at both hotels for Nov. 20th and 21st for family.
