Hi, first of all I'd like to know what makes a person a sex addict. I know it's something to do with pscyological problems, but are they dangerous and/or scary? Are they potential rapists? Please, this is not some adult content, I met one on the internet when he answered my question. So, I'd like to know what a sex addict is like and if I should be afraid of him. Your input and help are greatly appreciated.

First, are you desperate? Meeting someone on-line and then finding out they are a sex addict spells nothing but trouble for you.
He could be all the above that you mentioned and then you have to worry about if you were to meet face to face and become intimate, how many people has he been with and how safe he is to be with. This is how girls get in trouble.. If you respect yourself, leave it alone. Think, before you make a mistake.

I wanna say some of the things Tara says were dumb. First, whats rap or music got to do with sex addiction? Second, whats a parents occupation got to do with sex addiction? 66% of rapists were raised in single parent homes, so if you're that worried then dont have kids until your happily married.
Anyhow, what is a sex addict? To men, theres no such thing. To a woman, its any man who likes regular sex. That would make almost every man a 'sex addict'. I think it only applies when it negatively affects everything in your life like work, school, etc. and you still can't control it.

Sex addicts aren't scary really. They can put themselves in bad situations though, many partners, chances of STD's,etc. Sex for some is an addiction. What the line is between normal and not normal is tough. I guess it would relate to the first step of addiction "I am powerless over sex" Rapists,etc is not about sex, it is about power and being a predator.

A sex addicted person is fully dependant on sex. Sex becomes an unusual part of life which is dangerous. Rapist may not be sex addicted. Sometimes, it becomes their fancy, seeing some girl or her action. Sex addicted persons are dangerous in society and they paly a risky game with their health.

Danielle, there is no such thing as a sex addict. Each one ofus is behaving like one some time or the other. Those who have no productive activities often dwell on only sex. they are sex addicts ,from whom we shold keep a distance.

WELL I WILL START BY SAYING IM NO EXPERT BUT ITS NOT TRUE BY SAYING THAT THERE ARE NO SUCK THINGS AS A SEX ADDICT. IF THERE WERE NO SUCH THING THEN WHY WOULD THERE BE CHILD MOLESTERS AND RAP IN THE WORLD TODAY, I THINK IT IS NOT SOMETHING IN PARTICUALAR ABOUT A PERSON TO MAKE THEM THIS WAY, I THINK IT DEPENDS MORE ON HOW THEY GREW UP AND WHAT THEY SEEN GOING ON IN THERE OWN FAMILY, A RAPESTS SON IS MORE LIKELY TO BE A RAPEST AS WELL WHERE AS A PREACHERS SON IS NOT MORE LIKELY TO BE A PRETCHER, I THINK WE LEARN FROM WHAT WE LIVE, AND IF YOU LIVE A LIFE OF UNHAPPYNESS AND HURT FULL DOINGS, THEN YOU ARE MORE LIKELY TO GROW UP FOLLOWING THESE THINGS
