You didn't say if the motor was running or not. If the motor is still running, but it's not draining or spinning, then, like some of the others have said, it's probably the belt. But if the motor doesn't even run, then you may be looking at a new motor. And, depending on how old the machine is, it's probably more practical to get another machine.

I just had the same problem..it was out of balance, I took off my aggiator and found a broken bolt that holds the aggiator to the transmission..I fixed it , but then it was leaking water, because it ruined the tub seal.........or maybe it could be something like a worn belt.....My Fridigare washer was only 4 yrs old, it would of cost me 150 dollars to fix it, so I called Fridigare and asked why I should buy another Fridigare, when the last one broke...They offered me 40% towards a new one.hope this helps

My washing machine did that a couple of weeks ago and it is 20 years old. It was the belt. Replace the belt and the tension spring. sometimes the spring streches and could causes the belt to heat up and burn. Also check the switch for the lid the contacts could be dirty or getting wet. do not stick your finger in the hole where the switch is could cause electric shock.

I had the same subject with my Kenmore washer a pair weeks in the past. i tried to envision it out, yet had to call Sears service afterall, It necessary a sparkling transmission, and it replaced into lined by technique of warrantee yet I had to pay for "diagnosis" and labour. In my case, the motor replaced into ok, notwithstanding it does no longer click in at the same time as it had to modify gears and bypass severe speed spin, consequently the garments weren't perfect drained.

I agree with the other guy about the belt. That is real common. You can get a belt and replace it cheap.
