With your doctor's approval, start a walking program. Walk five days per week, 40 minutes per day. Take your blood pressure medicine. Lose weight if you are overweight at a rate of not more than 2 pounds per week. Do not add salt to any food that you eat - there is already enough salt in the bread and other foods that we eat. Avoid all fast foods and all processed foods (soups, frozen dinners and pizza) and increase your intake of fruits and vegetables that are fresh (not canned). See your doctor on a regular basis. Also, it is important to learn how to vent your emotions in a healthy way. Take a meditation or yoga class. Some people can reduce their blood pressure to the degree they are removed from medication. Good luck!

There is no quick remedy for high blood pressure. What was your pulse rate? That is important. With a bottom number as high as 159 you could have a stroke. That is way over the top. If your pulse is equally as high, as in over 100, it could be your heart causing the problem too.

Age doesn't make that much difference. But it does if you smoke or drink. Is this the first time your pressure and pulse were high? Why is it so important to pass tomorrow? Without medicine I don't think you will. Even on medicine it would be doubtful.

Just let the doctors diagnose you and treat it. Are you sure that bottom number was 159?

3 years ago, I was diagnosed - hypertension with a reading of 160/100. I used to feel dizzy a lot, my legs had awful cramps, and levels were very low in my potassium, causing my fingers and toes to always cramp together. One day I started to feel really faint while I was driving with my daughter in the back seat and I passed out, hitting 3 cars and ending up in a ditch. That moment,I knew I had to do something because my meds weren't working. I heard about this diet from a friend and thought I'd give it a shot. The results have been remarkable. In just 21 days, I honestly can't remember feeling this good, my blood pressure went from 175/110 to 125/70.

No caffeine and if you really want to improve it become a vegetarian for about a month it will bring down the blood pressure plus it will lower your cholesterol as well.

What is High Blood Pressure?

Also known as: Hypertension

It is estimated that over 50 million people in the United States have high blood pressure or are on prescription drugs to control their blood pressure. High blood pressure is a silent disease. It is often diagnosed during a routine visit to the doctor.

Blood pressure refers to the force of blood against the walls of the arteries, veins, and the chambers of the heart as it is pumped through the body. With high blood pressure, there is a greater force against the arteries, which over time, begins to damage the lining of the blood vessels. It can lead to atherosclerosis, also known as hardening of the arteries. High cholesterol and smoking are other risk factors of atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis, in turn, can increase the lead to heart attack, stroke, and other serious conditions.

You need to go to a doctor and get it under control. There are many medications that he can choose from to fit your current situation. Many times 2 or even 3 different medications are required and it can take several weeks of trial and error to get the right combination for you... With high blood pressure not treated you eventually cut about 10 years off your life expectancy. Six times more likelihood of a stroke and six times more likelihood of a heart attack. High BP eventually can kill off your kidneys painlessly and require a six hour dialysis treatment 3 times a week until your get a kidney transplant... If you get one. Don't play! Strokes are the greatest cause of disability in this country. Dying is not the worst thing that can happen to you. Try laying in your own excrement, unable to talk, and only one arm functional to bang on the bed rails so you can get the care you need to be cleaned up so it can happen again and again.

I read yoga reduces high blood pressure.
Also I would suggest starting right now to not consume caffeine(tea, coffee, soda pop, chocolate). No sugar. No salt. No cigarettes or cigars. Drink plenty of water to flush out your system.
Are you overweight? Exercise and diet are the cure. No Trans Fat, no saturated fat, no hydrogenated oils. Eat salmon or take salmon capsules.
Do you have high cholesterol? The Vitamin B-3 also called Niacin, taken at 20 milligrams a day will lower your cholesterol. Vitamin C, taken 60 mg a day will increase your HDL (the good cholesterol) Take extra C if you are stressed or smoke cigarettes. Vitamin B-12, take 6 mcg to 100 mcg to detoxify the cyanide found in tobacco smoke.

I always get confused which rating is which. But you have more control over the higher one than the lower one. Don't drink too much water, but don't go thirsty either, that's dangerous. Try to lose a little weight. Get plenty of rest, take care of yourself in general. Just before the test, take a deep breath, hold it for 4 seconds, then let your lungs naturally release the air. Then blow out slowly until there is no more air then hold that for 4 seconds. Repeat a few times, but stop if you feel dizzy or sick, or cough.
Lie down with your feet elevated slightly. Be careful when you get up, because you can have a crash in your blood pressure.
Also I take potassium or garlic. Not sure how that helps but it seems to help. Not too much potassium, it's poison if taken too much. Don't take anything with caffeine from now until the test, just cut it. Don't even eat chocolate. Avoid eating salty foods.

Well they say the Garlic helps to bring it down...So you can see if that works. My husband likes to take 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar with a little water and a little honey to make it sweeter. If you weight is up then try to loose a few pounds..If you smoke, STOP ...

BUT...And this is a VERY IMPORTANT THING !!!! You have to understand that if your pressure stays high like that YOU CAN HAVE A STROKE !!! Did I say you can have a stroke and die? Well you can !! Sorry !!

Hey, I was trying some natural things but had to take a medication that the doctor gave me after all because I still couldn't get it under control.

Last year a co-worker of my escrow agent had a stroke in his office at age 31....He never recovered....Then.....One of the teachers at my daughters nursing school wouldn't take her medication, she had a stroke in the bathroom..She didn't make it either (the teacher)

That got my attention, seriously...

Listen...It's hard to admit that you have to take the medication, It's worse to not take it and have a heart attack or stroke and die.

And Yes age does play a role in how our health changes...As we get older the body doesn't process things like it used to. And we are not as active as we used to be.....Get checked out as soon as you can...If they put you on medication for it, take it........

Your doctor is the best person to help you. However, lower your salt intake. Lose weight. Lower your cholesterol level. Exercise.

High blood pressure could be the result of kidney disease.

Like I said, consult with your doctor.
