I would go for XP on a Notebook ATM because Vista will not be stable until Vista SP1 or Vista SP2 that will no doubt need to be launched, as was with XP

I would go for it. If you found a laptop that is pretty awesome, then buy it. Personally, I would wait a year or so before I jumped on the Vista bandwagon. Vista has made some increadible changes to its security policy, including a full lock up of the system kornel. Basically what that means is that you can't install any third party virus protection, only Microsoft. I am weary to trust my PC to this until I have seen its performance.

when it comes to notebooks, most experts will say not to wait. When it comes to laptops, especially now, there ios no reason or need to wait. Any current laptop will be able to handle vista, worse case scenario you just upgrade the memory. 256 may be meager for vista, 512mb should suffice but 1 gigabyte will be great for vista. Most laptops today even come with the "vista ready" sticker, and microsoft has already stated they will offer vista discount vouchers for those that are impatient and want a laptop now. There is no "ground breaking" technology set to be released for laptops, so waiting simply for an operating system to be preinstalled is very laughable by most.

Buy the notebook now. Vista isn't really that great of an OS. "Ooo, its shiny and pretty. Oh wow, its taking up all of my memory."
Seriously, just buy the notebook now. It'll be able to run Vista when it comes out anyway if you really want it on there that bad. But honestly, theres no reason to switch from XP to Vista, I plan on keeping XP on my machines for as long as I possibly can.

depends on how bad you need a computer, if you buy now and want vista, you are gonna end up giving microsoft more $ for the upgrade.
I use a program called windowblinds and can make xp look like anything, mac os, and even vista.

Just when you buy it make sure it has 1GB ram or more to be vista capable. Also you will need Video card with 256 Ram or more - better is Nvidia = so thats all you need for Vista - processor and disk doesn't matter they will not change anyway :)

I currently use vista rc-1 ultimate on both my computers, and i like it. If you are getting a laptop now, it should be able to handle vista pretty well when they release it as a final version in 2007.

vista is a year late now because of problem's so I wouldn't be waiting for a piece of sh*t and you can buy a vista compatible computer or laptop now.so get what you want and run XP till vista is fixed and then change.

I would get it now if you really need it. I would avoid Vista for at least a year, because it will be full of bugs, unstable, and lacking drivers that you might need if you have peripherals you want to plug in..
