I honestly want some opinions here, because I can't think of any reasons.
You can be morally opposed to abortion, I have no problem with that. Obviously making abortions illegal will not stop them but will simply make back - ally abortions the norm.
So why make it illegal?

So many ignorant, uninformed souls...

Making abortion illegal will NOT make more babies available to be adopted, or teach people about "responsibility." What it will do will be to increase the number of abortions done in secret, risk lives of thousands of women who will still get abortions, but won't be able to do it in a proper medical center with proper care, and drive many more women to go to Canada (or Mexico, or Europe, or Asia, or the Caribbean) where abortions ARE legal.

Do you people not get it? Most experts estimated that the abortion rate went DOWN in the years after it was legalized (it's hard to be absolutely certain since abortions before that were all back-alley and not tracked), and complications went way down as well. You're so worried about projecting your morality on women that you'd sacrifice their lives or drive them to another country to "save their souls." You should be ashamed of yourselves. It's none of your business, it's their choice -- and the supreme court says so.

Because it is terminating the life of a baby. Why was slavery made illegal .. because it was wrong! Using the same logic that those who agree with abortion why can't a mother terminate the life of her 6 month old child... it's her child after all .. isn't this a private "family" matter. Why should the woman be "forced" to have to take care of this child if she does not want to? Why should society decide what is right for her. Who says that killing this child is wrong. If her morals say it's OK why can't she do it? Although you are morally opposed to this, why can't she do it if she is not morally opposed to this. ... BECAUSE IT'S WRONG!
..Unfortunately the fact of the matter is that the MAJORITY of the people who PROMOTE abortion are people who have HAD an abortion and who feel better about their decision when others do what they did.. Abortion not only ends the life of a baby, it also totally MESSES up the life of the person who had the abortion for many years..

Regarding the backroom abortions, although it is true that there may be back room abortions if they were outlawed, there would still be many that would not do that and give the child up for adoption instead, which would be one more life saved...

In the same way that even though murder is illegal, that does not mean it does not happen..

The argument about abortion centers around whether the unborn is a person or not. If it is not a "person" then what is it? If it is a "person", then an abortion is the same as murdering someone.

Taking each view to an extreme, would lead to whimisical decisions about abortions. There should be in my mind some gravity to making such a decision. Personally, if the life of the mother is TRULY in jeopardy, perhaps an abortion is in order. However, if not, I dont think an abortion should not be an alternative.

On the other hand, I dont feel that just because "life begins at conception" that the government should be invading the lives of potentially child bearing mothers by having them submit to pregnancy test EVERY MONTH. This could conceivably start
as young as 9 years old 'til perhaps as late as the middle 50s.

I do agree that an ironclad ban on abortions will not stop it. It would be no more effective than banning illicit drug use.

Again, for me abortions should be only performed ONLY when the life of the mother is in dire straits. Nothing is gained by having two people dead. (Perhaps the mother-to-be is already a mother.) However, abortions should not readily available as getting one's ear pierced.

I do not agree with david m.

Making abortions illegal will not in any way make people more responsible. All that will happen is these poor little babies will be uncared for, unnurtured & unloved.

I watched a program on teenage pregnancies the other day and these girls decided not to have abortions. The thing is these babies arrived and these teenagers didn't know how to care for their babies and didn't really have anyone to help them. One girl of 13, quite rightly, was still having extremely frequent teenage strops and got jealous if the baby got more attention than her. It made me cringe with pity to watch. Who would want that life for a child? She completely ignored the poor little girl, I was so outraged. This girl was obviously not ready to have children and should have been more clearly advised on the options available to her (I live in the UK). I'm not condemning teenage mums, every case is sifferent and each case should be treated as such to determine which avenue is suitable or appropriate.

Making abortion illegal will mean that woman will go back to the days of back street abortions where bleeding to death or dying of infections was common place and who really wants that for people?

Surely its better to have an abortion than to bring a child into the world who isn't wanted by their parents or spends their life in care homes?

I think those who are morally opposed to abortion are naive in not looking at the bigger picture.

How would they feel if they were in a situation where they couldn't bring up a baby properly/had a genuine accident/the baby wasn't wanted or they were just too young to have a child?

It just makes me so mad that there are people out there who are so ignorant as to believe making abortion illegal is suitable for everyone. Each and every woman individually has the right to decide for herself whether abortion is right for her or not.

no offense, but a goverment ban on abortion allows a larger military force to be created in about 20 years, as most of the people that need abortions because of poverty, etc. will raise children that are at risk and likely to join the army (true, or go to jail) instead of positively contributing to the workforce. Lower class families struggle as victims of rape that did not want nor can they support their children. Higher class women have fewer problems as they are more financially capable of providing a stable life for their offspring.

Conservatives want to make abortion illegal because they derive pleasure from the suffering of other people. They worship an evil and brutally judgmental God – which makes them the twins of Islamic terrorists.

They believe they are superior and like being able to look down on people. They see people who are having a hard time as worthless and deserving of punishment.

The only sanctity of life they care about is their own and those of their own kind. How else do you explain their support of the death penalty and their almost giddy support for torture and war? They especially like torture because it gives them a kind of sexual excitement.

They are never at the front of the line to adopt children, They are just the ones throwing rocks and worse outside of Planned parenthood. They claim to be pro-life, but it is always one of them that kills people at abortion clinics.

That is because, most of all, they are hateful, ignorant, and selfish hypocritical scum.

Nothing, except for being a more socialistic country. In a socialistic country, civil liberties are highly regulated, including abortion.Personally, I think we should have a constitutional amendment that guarantees a woman's right to choose and for that matter how about a constitutional amendment that bans discrimination of all persons based on sexual orientation, because not only do I think the Government has no right to tell a woman what to do with her fetus, but people regardless of sexual orientation should have the right to marry or serve in the military. Basically, Abortion should be protected as should all of the rights of people regardless of sexual orientation.

Making it Illegal will lead to "back alley abortions" A woman who is desperate will do it and face the consequences, getting it done in an unsafe or non sterile environment. The risk of infection or death is there. And heaven forbid, the coat hanger method. A woman who wants one should still have the right to a clean safe hospital and a reputable Doctor. I don't think it is an easy choice to make for anyone. I am grateful I have never been pregnant and had to make a choice. At 33, I could handle whatever comes my way.

maybe the conservatives should spend less time and money on trying to make abortion illegal and spend a little more time teaching the 13 year old girl/boy about sex -but o wait no thats not good either just regulate his/her life to the point she doesnt even know what she is doing and then say they where responsible enuff to have the sex they should be responsible enuff to take care of the child

I believe the mentality is that they are trying to reduce the number of abortions any way they can, even if they can't stop them completely. I am not religious, but if I were a Christian, I might just think that way myself.

But I'm not. Personally, I liken abortion to organ donation. For example, if my father were dying and needed one of my kidneys to survive, should there be a law that forces me to donate a kidney to save his life? I don't think so. I mean, I would donate my kidney, but there shouldn't be a law forcing me to do so. It should be my choice.

Similarly, should there be a law that forces a woman to essentially "donate" her womb for a period of time to save the life of an unborn child? I don't think so. I mean, I think she should have the child, but it should be her choice, not forced by law.
