We're in 2006! sn't it well known by now that the word retard is not politically correct to say...especially coming from a college Professor!

It could be because it is what he always used to say. Or maybe he is one of those teachers who doesn't care about being politically correct.

Who says your professor must be politically correct? Maybe he is making a point about the arbitrariness of language use, and maybe he just can't think of a better term to describe the level of performance his students exhibit.

Because it conveys his meaning and he isn't worried about whether or not some student is going to think it is PC...
Don't worry about "PC"...
It is simply an expression of derision meaning that someone is not too bright...
What is the problem ?
