When you're taking a shortcut across town, your luxurious car broke down in the middle of nowhere and all you know is that you're in a bad neighborhood now (a ghetto with notorious gang activities). You know you maybe in great danger. Unfortuniately, you are alone, late at night 10:15pm. Worse yet, you are not a triple A club member (cause you didn't think you will need their service for your nearly brand new car.)
There will be another 50 min drive to go home.

Just when you're about to pick up your cell phone and call police for help. All of a sudden, there is one weird looking guy stopped his old truck, offering you a favor to drive you to the nearby garage for some emergency towing services....

How would you handle this situation?

If the phone is still working, then say you'll pass and call a tow truck.

The real question is - if someone who appeared "normal" drove up and offered you a ride, would you take it?

Personally, I would tell the guy "thanks but I have help coming", call a friend and ask them to look up a towing service phone number for you in the area you are in, and call the wrecker to come and get you. You pay the wrecker and your insurance company will reimburse you for the towing, minus your towing deductible (assuming you had towing clause put in your policy when you took it out on the car). Then, sit, wait, and hope the tow truck gets there soon.

If you have no money or credit card for the tow, you could ride with the man. You may be safe, but your car would be vulnurable until you could return to it. Kinda "danged" if you do and "danged" if you don't.

I'd probably tell him I had a towing service and was calling them. Mainly because it would cost less and is a service provided by my insurance or new car warranty.

Never except help in a strange dark place at night from someone you don't know or who is not in a position to be held responsible. If I had a cell phone I'd be making that 911 call and tell him thanks but help is on the way.

I wouldn't put myself in the situation to begin with...but if this happened I'd make my call & wave a thank you to the guy that stopped to help. Hopefully he was someone sincere & would respect a woman alone...should be left alone.
