what they have in common is the earths tetonic plates shift to either cause the earthquake of volcanic eruption the plates shift and disrupt the ground around them lifiting up the only difference really from what I know is that with the volcano you have molten lava erupt from a mountain the lava heats up the plates and shifts them but during an earthquake the earth shifts hitting the plates together causing the ground above them to crack they both give warning signs the sesmic activity is recorded but it is harder to warn of an earthquake because we don't know exactly where it will happen but as for a volcano it is easier to predict because it gives us many more signs such a sulfuric acid and other signs is a large outbreak of small dead animals in the area around it the temperture of water is higher just before an eruption this is just general information I know u should check out websites like discovery channel maybe it can help you out more than i can

Some earthquakes, like the one in Hawaii are caused by magma moving around near a volcano. It causes the ground to shift around in the vicinity of the volcano..
Other quakes, like in California are caused by continental plates running into each other.

Alike - both are subject to plate techtonics

Different - earthquakes are sudden, volcanoes take time before they erupt

EARTHQUAKES CAN CAUSE VOLCNOES.THEY ARE BOTH CAUSED BY PLATE MOVEMENT.
