Today I got a speeding ticker in Maine on the highway, 82 in a 65. It was very dark out and I couldnt even see the parked police car until he was literally righ next to me. He did not have his parking lights on or anything like that. I have heard from multiple people that if an officer fails to have his parking lights on while trying to catch speeders, you can have your ticket thrown out. Is there any truth to this? Thanks.

No, you cannot win your case based on the parking light argument. However, you might want to try fighting it anyway. Ask to see the officer's notes. I did this once, and the officer had forgotten to make notes on the back of the ticket, so it was thrown out due to lack of evidence.

Also find out if the method of detection was Lidar or Radar. It was most likely LIDAR, which is pretty much flawless, but if it was RADAR, you can check the calibration dates and see if it had been recently calibrated. Keep in mind though that people try these things all the time, so they run a pretty tight ship.

Best of luck, and keep your speed down up there anyway, because the Moose won't write you a ticket, you'll get a toe tag.

none at all

Other ticket myths:
myth: There's a good chance the officer won't show up tor court.
reality: It's his job to show up and he/she will.

myth: If they write the wrong statute number on the ticket you can get off.
reality: While this will get you out of a ticket it almost NEVER HAPPENS. The officer writes ten tickets a day; he/she knows the statute.

So, sorry, pay up and buy a radar detector.
