I know some of the kids ask for the punishments they get but some teachers are plain evil. You can't even tell me that they arn't because I have had a couple that have yelled at me for asking a question. Not saying all teachers are like that. People are always telling me to respect my teachers. But what about the ones that yell and punish you for doing nothing wrong? Don't you have to give respect to get it?

I think that possibly some teachers are just really tired and short tempered without necessarily meaning to be. I think many teachers who've been teaching for 20+ years are tired of it and they really should retire, but maybe they can't afford to. Maybe some don't know how to leave their personal problems outside and carry over their unhappiness to the classroom. Also, many older teachers still have the mindset that students are "below" them. The school districts should provide training in how to provide positive reinforcement and patience and communication. (Unfortunately most don't receive this type of ongoing training.) Once someone gets into the habit of teaching a certain way (i.e., being a strict teacher instead of a leader), it's hard to recognize those faults and change them because it will take them out of their comfort zone. Younger teachers, I think, are trained in a different way and are more able to connect with the kids. The most effective teachers are really leaders - they lead their students to the answers or lessons rather than cramming it down your throat.

It doesn't mean that "mean" teachers are bad people, it just means that they're not effective and good teachers any more. I know a couple of teachers who are very nice people, but the kids don't like them because they're mean teachers. It's really very frustrating.

Anyhow, just hang in there. Do what that particular teachers requires and maybe ask to talk to them for a couple of minutes after class to answer a question. If they ask why you didn't ask the question during class time, just say that you didn't want to interrupt them. Maybe that will help you.

That is so true.

I don't think all teachers know (or maybe they just don't care) how big of an impact they can have on a child's life. There are awesome teachers out there, sure. But some are just plain mean to certain kids for no reason at all.

I remember a few that made me feel almost insignificant to them. There were a few coaches like that too.

Her gym teacher is half right, though exercise is a great relief for most cramping and discomfort associated with your monthly, if your sister was uncomfortable or fatigued then she should have sat out and rested. also if her pain is increasing have her mention it to her gyno, there could be something wrong ie: endometriosis a rare but very painful condition As far as tampons go, you can use them as soon as you have your first period, there is no age restriction. I believe every young woman has the right to choose what she uses. U Ignore all the guys on here answering your question, unless they are ob/gyn's or used to be a woman what the f*** do they know about it? oh and Gary, a period comes once every month, but bitchiness lasts a life time

Lots of people are mean. I think that they are unhappy with their lives. Put yourself in their shoes for just a minute. I think that some teachers are tired, fed up and under paid. When my kids were in high school, they got to know some of their teachers. It was quite interesting learning about them as regular people. Remember that they are real people and not just a teacher. They could have just lost a person close to them, they may be in debt, their child may be in trouble, they may have cancer, you never know. It is like that when you have a job. Some people are just not happy. I can't imagine what it would be like to work with hundreds of kids every day. My kids can't be nice most of the time, and I'm sure the teachers have to put up with tons of kids who are disrespectful. If someone is mean to you, isn't it hard to be nice to someone else? It rubs off. Think about it. Life is pretty hard.

Yes, sadly this is true. Teaching is a job that requires a lot of patience and a real passion for the job. Some teachers just teach because they suck and cannot do anything else with their lives, and therefore they are miserable and like to spread their misery.

I guess while you're still in school, they are the authorities and you have to obey them. Most are on antidepressant medication and most are overly tired and work way too hard. On top of teaching, they are pressured into forming stupid committees and attending dorky meetings. Just go to class, stop being a clown, and do your work. Oh yes, and as Pink Floyd says, eat your meat or you don't get any pudding.

It is sometimes because they don't like kids, which is weird considering they became a teacher.
Or maybe they had a bad childhood and don't like certain types of kids.
Or the teacher is flatout mean and has no reason.

O.k. I'm out of school and i have children myself now. To be honest i thought then and think now they just want to have a power trip. HOnjestly I've been in your shoes and both of my children have been in your shoes but mosytly my daughter.
p.s. kill them with kindness and if you are realy bold ask to have a parent teach confrence with them and share your feelings sof the certain events with them but what ever you do don't and i repeat don't confront them by your self or with one of your peers get a parent get a princibel but your best bet is to take you parent or school counslor with you in this meeting if you chose to go that way
