With the budget that Schuerholz has to deal with, acquiring Alfonso Soriano would be highly unlikely. I'd like to see Carl Crawford in the leadoff spot; I've even seen Juan Pierre's name mentioned. I'd take Crawford because of his defense. Should Crawford come to Atlanta, I'd say Renteria still bats second if Giles isn't retained. As for the pitching, Hudson should return to form, plus Hampton returns next season. Smoltz, Hampton and Hudson would already fill three of the five spots in the starting rotation. Davies and Ramirez could possibly be trade bait for Crawford; I hope Atlanta doesn't deal Chuck James, though, because he had a real good rookie season this year, winning 11 games. Also, Thomson isn't likely to be renewed anyway.

Even if the Braves did get him, it wouldn't be "the best line-up in the NL" by any stretch of the imagination. As if the Reyes, LaDuca, Beltran, Delgado, Wright machine can be topped. Add Alphonso Soriano to that, and watch the wins pile up.

Crawford would be an outstanding leadoff man. If Chipper can stay healthy, and the starting rotation gets right again we could really be good.

Personally I think that if they can keep everyone healthy, then all they really need to aquire for next season is some good pitchers. That was their problem this year: having some of their best players injured. I think they need to keep Giles. He's one of their better players.
