I think that USMCsting's answer is short ,, concise ,, and to the point ,,, Those with out guns have learned a long time ago that they can still be killed by them ,,,,, All these so called intelligent do gooder's that lobby for gun legislation haven't got the mental capacity to think past their nose ,,,, You can't kill a snake by cutting off it's tail ,,,, They've made all of these gun laws here in the United States and none of them are effective ,,,,, They don't target the criminal capable and willing to use them ,,,,, The victims of these laws is the honest gun owner ,,,,, I've looked this topic up for Australia too and it sounds like their legislative body is just as brain dead ,,,,,, Instead of saddling the honest gun owner with these stupid and ineffective laws ,,,,, Put the responsibilities for crimes with a gun on the perpetrators ,,,,,,The proper way to kill a snake is go for the head ,,,, What do they do when they really want compliance to a law ,,,, ? They put a strong and heavy penalty on it,,,,,, but all the gun laws we have don't reduce the violance that takes place involving fire arms ,,,,,, Why not ,,,,,, instead of all these stupid and ineffective laws they have on the books ,,,,,,,,,don't they just establish one law that stipulates that the perpetrator of a criime using a gun should have to face capital punishment ,,,,,,, And make it stick ,,,,,, We know what happens ,,,, or rather DOESN"T happen with existing gun laws ,,,,, Why not scrap everything we have on the books about guns and try it that way ,,,,,, The only thing the laws we have concerning this matter do now is put more restrictions on the honest gun owner ,,,,,, These laws do nothing to target or control the criminal at all ,,, because all the criminal has to do to obtain a gun is go to the black market and get anything he wants ,,,,,He's not going to go through all it takes today to purchase a gun legally just to commit a crime with it ,,,,,, You could get rid of all the laws we have concerning guns and have just one ,,,, ANYONE COMMITING A CRIME WITH A GUN WILL HAVE TO SUFFER CAPITAL PUNISHMENT ,,,,, Wheather They hurt any one or not ,,,, Even if they don't hurt anyone ,,,,, the potential to hurt mame or kill is still there ,,,,,, That kind of a law would deffininently give the potential criminal with a gun cause to think twice about his intentions ,,,,,IT'S FOR SURE THAT NOTHING ELSE HAS SO FAR,,,,, Put guns back in the hands of the public with no restrictions but establish the Capital Punishment law at the same time ,,,,,, Let the individual be responsible for his actions from then on ,,,,, If a criminal thinking about breaking that law with a gun knows what the consequences are ,,,, He's most likely going to think twice and either not do it at all or use some other method ,,,, They've put these laws on the books for guns so why haven't they outlawed knives or forks or ball bats or nitting needles ,, rolling pins or anything else that could be used as a potential weapon to injure or kill someone ?? Until these so called intelligent legislators get their heads out of the sand ,,,,, It's always going to be that when guns are outlawed only out laws will have guns ,,,,, Yoda said this ,,,,,,,,

Yes they are....
The liberals in Australia pushed ilegalizing firearms after some nut went into a Micky D's and shot up the place...
Now there crime rate is sky hi. All they did is take away the protection from law abiding citizens. The criminals still do what they want. Figures the Liberals would f' up a good country

Personal firearms have been banned, except for members of exclusive hunting clubs where they have to keep them locked except when on the firing range. Some landowners, I understand, are allowed to keep shotguns to protect against foxes and rabbits.
I think that all hunting rifles have been confiscated, and melted down, no matter how valuable they might have been.

Note; The crime rate in Australia has shot up since the gun ban
