NObody came up with it...it's just a slang
since most of the countries in america were colonized by spain and they speak spanish.....
it's obvius that there will be a name related to that "Hispanic = people who speaks spanish"
"Latino = people who speaks spanish and this is just an evolution of latin"
the truth is I don't feel offended if my ascendents are hispanic

I feel the same and refuse to go by Hispanic. It is a political term that I don't identify with. I identify with Chicana personally, to recognize the mestiza aspects of who I am.

It did come from Hispania. Hispania is the latin word for Spain.

I did not come from Caucasia, but still there needs to be a way to classify culturally and ethnically similar groups. We don't necessarily get to choose the names, but we can live with them knowing they do not define our individual nature. Taking offense and making a big deal out of it only fuels the negative connotations.

polish is white idiot, actually you are hispanic, hispanic is any race mixed with spanish blood (from spain, i'm sure your cuban and mexican in you has some spanish in you) i consider myself white (irish, puerto rican, english, scottish, german, dutch, french and of course American) my grandfather is from puerto rico, he game from a white spanish family who came spain, even though i'm white i can be considered hispanic if i wanted because if my spanish ancestry, my mom actually put hispanic on my sisters birth certificate so that she would be able to get more scholarships when she got older, and my mother is a redheaded blue eyed fair skinned woman who's maiden name is Gonzalez
