i appreciate all answers, but I live down south with a waffle house near every insterstate exit and Ive been in a waffle house that had just been robbed, a waffle house that couldn't serve any food because the water main had broke, but the door was still open. Just my experience, not saying the same for all..

In case they get robbed...

Ok, so I emailed Waffle House Corp, and asked them the following:
"I have a question, and am begging you to answer and 'solve the
myth'. Why, if you are open 24/7 & 365, are there locks on the doors? Thank
you so much! "

Here is their response:
"Thank you for inquiring about locks on Waffle House doors. There are locks
on our doors because before the stores open, doors are locked to protect the
restaurant. After opening, doors are only locked when remodeling or other
instances when the restaurant may be closed for business (rare but sometimes
happens). Hopefully, this answered your question. "

Because of emergencies. Hurricanes, robberies, etc. I worked at a 24 hour drug store. The city required us to close during Hurricane Isabel. None of us had ever locked the door and no one knew where the key was. So someone was at the store all the time with the doors locked from the inside.

In case of emergency -- robbery, medical emergency, etc. Also, if there were to be a large storm, and the power were out for any length of time, the doors would have to be locked to deter looting. Or what if, in the case of a third shift, there were only two employees and one had a heart attack or something -- they would have to lock up the store until able employees could arrive. All sorts of reasons. The one I didn't list -- what if only one person is working, and they have to go potty???????

Good question. LL Bean in Freeport, Maine is open 24/7/365. They do NOT have locks on their doors. Many years ago their was a fire somewhere and they had to evacuate the store and they had to have guards stand at all the doors since they couldn't lock them...

all standard doors come with locks.
they did not make the doors specifically for waffle house.
they are all standard.
the guys making the doors didn't think "oh, waffle house is open 24/7, so let's take the locks off". why pay more for that? why waste their time? that's why.
