I was watching me, myself and irene, and as you know, charlie is a schizo.this has nothing to do with the movie, but I was wondering if uum... hank... threatened to kill charlie would it be considered a suicide threat or a hostage situation???

I think it would be a suicide attempt because this is the same person. You remember in the movie the police thought that it was Charlie doing all those bad things. They didn't know that he was a schizo, but his kids didn't know either. So they would have thought of it as being a sucide attempt instead of a hostage situation.

Considering that Hank and Charlie are two different "people" I think that it would be considered a hostage situation.

hostage situation...lol, but if he actually did it, it might be called a homicide/accidental suicide.
