sorry,84.5 is not the coorect answer.To get the correct answer let us solve it in systematic way The total of8 numbers= - 190+75- 65+100+72- 54-62-87 = - 211 Therefore, the mean is - 211/8 = - 26.375

To find the mean of 8 numbers, add them all up and divide by 8.

84.5 is not correct. Adding a negative number works the same as subtracting a positive number. Adding these numbers all up will give you a negative number, so after you divide by 8 to get the mean, the answer will be negative.

The mean is not 84.5. The mean is negative. Add all the numbers together: the sum is negative, therefore the mean is negative.

Once I added those numbers together, I got -211.
To find the mean, I took -211 (the sum of the eight numbers) and divided by 8 (the number of numbers you were adding together).
-211 / 8 = -26.375

If your sum was negative, the mean would be negative also.
If your sum was positive, the mean is positive.

You'll always divide by a positive number, so the sign would depend on the sum of the numbers.

add all the numbers together with their signs and then divide by how many numbers you added together (8). The answer is -26.375.
