Do you mean f(x) = (x+3)(x-4)? Multiply out to get x^2 - x -12; f(a)=a^2 - a -12

f(a) = (a+3)(a-4).

don't you mean f(x)=(x+3)(x-4)?

substitute x for a.

f(a)=(a+3)(a-4)
