Greece lays claim to Macedonian history, pretending it belongs to them. It is not surprising that Greece also likes to pretend some sort of 100% racial "purity." (There is no such thing as racial purity, not really.) It would be interesting to know what their motivation is for making such claims.

I am sure you miss some details thus resulting in incorrect figures provided regarding synthesis of Greece population.
You are wondering why only a 2% of the total Greece population is considered as foreigners.
Let's check the correct figures :
According to 2001 official reports by Greek government, the total Greece population was 10,259,900.
According to the 2004 data provided by the Ministery of the Interiors only 228,401 (whose country of origin is located outside the European union) are considered foreigners, thus making a percentage of 2,23%.
This percentage represents the immigrants with valid residence visas whose country of origin, is NOT a European Union member. European Union nationals are not considered as foreign, although of different country of origin, and therefore are not inluded in this list.
Other types of statistics, do cover the rest of habitants with origin from other European members.
Last I have to remind that Muslims do NOT consist an ethnic group or a nationality and they cannot be included in these statistics. They consist a religional group same as Christians, Budists etc.

First off, Muslims and Turks are never mentioned in the population because "The Greek Government states that there are no ethnic divisions in Greece" (That came your source by the way) and here are the exact facts as of October 17, 2006:
"Ethnic Groups:
Greek 98%, other 2%
note: the Greek Government states there are no ethnic divisions in Greece" (from your source as well)
Secondly, 213,761 people therefore are of another ethnicity...and considering the rail comment that was made...if you think about this logically, you will always find more ethnicities in major cities! This is because they have larger populations, more tourists, larger economy hence more businesses and traveling businessmen and women! So of course you will see a broader spectrum of ethnicities on the rail and in major cities.
Thirdly, I would like to quote Dellas...you know, the GREEK MACEDONIAN football player and say "If we want to say the things as they are, there they are not Macedonians. Macedonia is a piece of Greece", declared Dellas, he continued: "I am from Thessaloniki, therefore I am a Macedonian. The Skopianoi have have familiarized themselves with that name, but in reality they belong to another nationality."
As well, I am Macedonian. My family is from Kastoria, GREECE therefore I AM MACEDONIAN. Just stop your witch hunt for it is rather tiresome.
That is all I have to say about that because you seemingly always have your not so secret agenda to bash Greece and claim Macedonia as your own. There is a reason it is named the FORMER YUGOSLAV REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA.
You are the true definition of Skopianoi.

I looked at some statistics in the 1998 edition of Philip's Atlas.
There are more percentages in the 90's than you might think.
Greece 96% Greek
Albania 98% Albanian
Italy 94% Italian
France 93% French

A lot of ethinic groups are Greek!
Like Turkey and other countries nearby( Macedonia, ect)
they are COMPLETE melting pots from WAY back.
Blond Turks are Turks, Arab looking Turks are Turks too, ect.........same for Greece. The borders of modern Greece are only relatively recently being set.

I don't know the statistics but if you come in greece you will see that there are many foreigners here!
People from Albania, Russia, Turkey and many more countries.
But I think that there is a law here.If someone stays in Greece for more than 10 years they take the Greek nationality.
And about the FYROM (Former Yugoslavian Republic Of Macedonia). The state that you are refering as Macedonia.
Macedonia is a place in Northern Greece. In Greece!
In 1993 and for no reason a region of Yugoslavia (it was then when Yugoslavia broke into many states) took the name Macedonia and they were declared as a state with that name without asking and without permission from the Greek government.

The state such the one you mentioned can not allow itself to recognize another nationalities at its territory because of a dangerous occasion that some people could have a real possibility to introduce what the state had done in the past, but the result is not the one which was expected - there are different ethnic groups at its territory, anyway. They are making noise about Macedonia and Macedonians, but what about the region of Chameria and alot of Albanians there. Life is a wheel, isn't it ?

That's a crock of crap, there are plenty of other races in Greece. They take tens of thousands of Albanians and Turks and North Africans every year. All you have to do is travel on the subway in Athens to see 90000 different colours creeds and races.
Official figures are not always correct figures.

Albanians and others who speak Greek are counted as Greek.
Muslims who are having children like rabbits are still counted as Greek because they can speak Greek and are protected by the EU.
