First thing you might want to know did she live in a place where there were no storms?
exp; South West Coastal British Columbia has only 5 min electrical thunder storms.
So you might want to ask her if she lived in an area where there were no storms.

How afraid, like panic attacks afraid? Then she probably has a phobia. She could take ativan or something like that during thunderstorms, but I would recommend counseling too. If she is just nervous, then that is normal...lots of people hate storms.
