I have a laptop I used several years ago with an old Yahoo email account (an account I no longer use and is closed). Is there any place that saves information like that on my computer where I could possibly find email addresses I used, or a Messenger name? Is there anywhere I can look in my computer? Any ideas at all???

did you officially close the account or let it close by default by not signing in?

If not officially closed you can do the following:
all that information can be obtained from your current computer by signing into yahoo email and messenger. If you forgot your password there are several steps you could take to get up and running. You might need to mail your drivers license or state issued ID card to yahoo before they will reset your password.

You will have lost all incoming email, but your address book is still there. Same with messenger. Once you get the password for email, it's the same for messenger.
Messenger: You can go to message archive (if you set it up to archive all IM's). There is an option with the current messenger to send your current buddy list to another screen name by pressing CTL+SHIFT+M

email: click on addresses 4" from the top right you will see an import/export link... follow instructions

If officially closed close it... You might be able to sign into messenger under that name, but not sure. Older yahoo messengers might have kept an archive in the hard drive. Locate where you installed messenger and click on all the file folders and see if there are any .txt files.

I don't know how to help you if it's officially closed

Sorry I'm afraid probably not. Yahoo keeps all that information on their server and it was probably deleted when your service was canceled. Messenger may have kept some sort of log on who you sent messages to. You could find these files under c:\program files\yahoo\....... You could also see if you can log onto your old account. if it's been 6mos or less then you might be able to still get in.

When you permanently delete files from your computer you are really giving your computer the ability to write over those files. If you have not written over those files they are still retrievable. Here is the best program I know to do just that.

"File-Saver" is the world's smartest undelete tool. It can instantly restore hundreds of deleted files from your PC. It doesn't matter if you've emptied the Recycle Bin, or a computer virus deleted the files.

If it's been deleted, it can be UNDELETED. Important documents, precious photos, work presentations. "File-Saver" enables you to get your files back.

If nothing was deleted from this machine you should be able to see any profiles that was used on that machine. This is saved in c:\program files\yahoo\messenger\profiles

Good Luck.
