I haven't had math in a long time, but if I am correct, x and y need to equal 8, by addition.

The first number in each of the ordered pairs, in the parantheses is x, and the second, you have to figure out what it needs to be to eqaul 8 when added to the first.

x+y=8
In the first one x=5,

so 5+y=8,

or subtract 5 from both sides, and you get

y+8-5,

which equals???

All you have to do here is substitute the given value into the equation. For this example you are only given x values. The first gives you 5 +y = 8. Solve the equation for y by subtracting 5 from both sides or just realize that 5 + 3 = 8 so your first ordered pair is (5,3). Keep going on your own.

The linear equation is x+y = 8

In each orderd pair, the first value is the x value for your equation and the second value is the y value,

do each pair by itself.

The first pair is (5, ) which means we are given the x for our equation and must find the y
So just put 5 in your equation instead of x and we get
5 + y = 8 . what do we add to 5 to get 8? We add 3.
So y must be 3 and our ordered pair will be (5, 3)

You are now ready to do the others. I know you have it and I do not want to ruin your fun by giving you the other answers. :-)

You can save yourself a little time by moving the x to the right side -- thus you have y=8-x. Then just plug in the values for x and see what you get for y. Thus:

y=8-5=3, so you have (5, 3)
(8, 0)
(0, 8)

You just want two numbers that add up to 8. You've already been given the x values,so the y values should be easy.
5 + y = 8, so y = 3 for the first one.

substitute the y value in the equations. first one 5+x=8,therefore x=3
second x+8=8, therefore x=0
third x+0=8, therefore x=8

"x+y=8"
(5,_); (8,_); (0,_)

'5+y=8'
y=8-5
y=3
(5,_)=(5,3)

'8+y=8'
y=8-8
y=0
(8,_)=(8,0)

'0+y=8'
y=8-0
y=8
(0,_)=(0,8)

Therefore, by plugging in the given "x" into the equations, your coordinates are: (5,3); (8,0); (0,8)

Your welcome, hope this helps.
